Police stop The new truck route maps are now available.

We frequently receive notice from concerned citizens of cars speeding in various locations in the city. This helps us to identify and focus on problem areas. Our research has shown that speed-monitoring trailers are the most efficient and effective way of providing a more lasting effect on reducing speeding problems.

The police department currently uses 3 speed-monitoring trailers. These units are portable, self-contained speed display machines that can be towed to sites experiencing speed related problems. A specially designed radar mounted inside the secured trailer clocks speeds and shows them on a highly visible LED display screen. The speed limit sign above the display reminds motorists to pay attention and drive within the posted limit.

The Department of Transportation's research shows that speeding drivers slow down to the posted limits when their actual speed is displayed on the speed board. As speed awareness increases, motorists slow down, even after the reader board has been removed.

The speed monitoring trailers can be placed in neighborhoods, school zones, construction sites, and other locations that need a little help in promoting compliance with posted speed limits. If you are interested in placing one of these units in your neighborhood, please contact the Community Policing Officer in your area or submit the
Speed Board Request form.
