The West Jordan Police Department is participating in an online crime mapping program that will allow residents to input their address and view crime statistics for their area. The www.RaidsOnline.com site is free to the public and includes optional e-mail updates.
The map empowers viewers by informing them of criminal activity in their area and enabling them to make informed decisions to help improve the safety of their families, friends, property, and community.
About Raids Online:
RAIDS Online is the public crime map that connects law enforcement with the community to reduce crime and improve public safety. You can view and filter crime data in an interactive map and analytics dashboard to become better informed about crime activity in your area. You can also sign up for neighborhood crime activity reports and emergency alerts sent directly from local law enforcement. Best of all, RAIDS Online is free to law enforcement and the public!
WJPD believes the map is a useful tool that can help raise awareness and encourage viewers to work cooperatively with law enforcement. However, there are some limitations to be aware of before viewing the map:
· The base maps used by Bair Software (makers of raidsonline.com) can be dated or contain errors. Some addresses—especially new neighborhoods—may not be available. The City of West Jordan has no control over the raidsonline.com website and their mapping tools.
· Although WJPD provides the raw data to raidsonline.com, WJPD does not control how it is interpreted in the analytical section of raidsonline.com. The charts and graphs depicted on the site are created and maintained by Bair Software.
· In order to protect victims of certain crimes and the security of pending investigations, Bair Software has not been given access to all crime data. Therefore, the data used on the raidsonline.com may be incomplete and should only be used as an informational tool. The West Jordan Police Department has accurate charts and graphs available to the public in its annual report and budget reports, which can be found online at www.wjordan.com. Additionally, analytical reports can be found at the FBI’s crime statistics site (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm) or the Utah BCI crime statistics site (http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/crimestatistics.html).
