  Minimum Requirements

Minimum qualifications to become a Police Officer for the City of West Jordan are:

  • One year of experience working with the public.
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by completion of POST Academy course of study. Two years of college are desirable.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
  • Possession of POST Basic Law Enforcement Certificate at the time of hiring.
Getting Started

The City of West Jordan does not sponsor individuals to go through POST courses. Therefore, interested applicants must obtain the required certification on their own.

•  Satellite Academy
The Utah POST oversees and regulates several satellite academies in the state, which offer basic training programs. Satellite academies generally hold classes during the evening and weekend hours to accommodate those working full time. Because the classes are only a few hours every night, it takes longer to complete the training. This is a full certification course (Special Functions and Law Enforcement Officer). Contact the individual academies for enrollment information. You may contact Utah POST at (801)256-2300 for more information.

The following are the Satellite Academies:
        Weber State University
        Salt Lake Community College
Department of Corrections – Fred House Academy
        Utah Valley State College
        Bridgerland Applied Technology Center
        Uinta Basin Applied Technology Center
        Dixie College
